Sterling Silver Care
With proper care, fine quality silver will last a lifetime. To minimize scratches and tarnishing (a dulling that naturally occurs when silver reacts with sulfur or hydrogen sulfide in the ambient air), store silver jewelry in a Ziploc bag. Avoid exposing your silver to household chemicals when cleaning with bleach or ammonia, or when swimming in chlorinated water, as these chemicals can damage silver.
Clean your Sterling Silver on a regular basis
Care should also be taken to prevent silver tarnish build-up. To clean your silver, use polishes formulated specifically to remove tarnish. You can find fine silver polishes, solutions, or cloths appropriate to remove tarnish at most hardware stores or specialty craft stores. A jewelry care cloth is available on our website and pictured at right. Tarnish is most easily removed when it first becomes visible.
Cleaning Gold Filled Beads
When polishing Gold Filled Beads take care not to rub to hard as the Gold Finish can eventually be worn off. A mild detergant can be used for Jewelry Cleaning. We also offer a wonderful Jewelry cleaner that works especially well on jewelry items that contain both Sterling and Gold Filled materials.
Cleaning Bali Beads
Sterling Silver Bali Beads have an antique look created by allowing the beads to become oxidized. Do not dip these beads in a tarnish removing solution or the oxidation and antique look will be removed. The Bali beads can be polished with our polishing cloth by rubbing lightly. The oxidation and antique look is between grooves in the beads and should not be harmed by doing this.
A Note About General Jewelry Care
You should not wear your Beaded Jewelry while Cleaning, Swimming or taking a Shower. The chemicals used during these activities are hard on all jewelry parts. We recommend that you do not sleep in your Jewerly (except for rings and stud earrings) as this causes stress on all moving parts. Cherished Time Designs uses the strongest jewerly wire in the industry suitable for our bracelets/necklaces but with wear and tear the wire will eventually need replacing. Following these few tips will lengthen the period of time between maintenance re-strining.
