14K GOLD FILLED BEADS AND PRODUCTS
Our gold filled beads are made by using heat and pressure to apply a layer of karat gold to a base of less costly metal. This produces a surface with karat gold much thicker than both Gold Plating and Heavy Gold Electroplate. The minimum layer of karat gold must equal at least 1/20th of the total weight of the item. Use care when buffing Gold Filled beads, to avoid removing the gold layer. Note: Gold fill is 50 to 100,000 times thicker that regular Gold Plating and about 17 to 25,000 times thicker than Heavy Gold Electroplate.
GOLD PLATED STERLING SILVER
A product described as Gold Plated Sterling Silver is strong and does not dent becasue it has a base of .925 sterling silver. It is plated with a layer of 14k gold. Where the Gold Plating has not completely bonded with the Sterling Silver, the Silver will eventually tarnish. Overtime, This will appear as darkened areas on the gold.
